A family owned hotel in the heart of Chennai, Hotel Maris is now into the third generation, and it has been my privilege to know them. We have hosted several family events here, for which Mr. Anand Rengaswamy and his team spared no effort to ensure they went off smoothly. Tiffin time has brought us to Anandam many times with family and friends. I first stepped into Hotel Maris not long after it opened in 1975 and, 50 years on, I am always impressed when I visit - to see how quality, style and affordability can be perfectly matched and that too for a hotel so central in Chennai. I have not stayed in the rooms, but the restaurant serves the best south Indian/Tamil food ever. I also had the privilege to visit the restaurant kitchens that are spotless and conform to the overall high standards.

Maris is always home to us. From the security guard who welcomes us and finds us a spot to the welcoming smile of the staff at Anandam. This is, of course, followed up with lip smacking fare, all made with love and care. When evening falls, a visit to the bustling Permit Room on Cathedral Road is a must. Filled with professionals, politicians, traders and people like me, the place is in a class of its own. Great service and super snacks that keep coming. Now with the renovated rooms, Maris is a one stop place for the visitor or resident.

Over the last 15 years Anandam has been our first choice for the Sunday breakfast or the occasional evening Tiffin only for its perfect crisp outside Vadas and the softest Idlis one can get along with a high quality of service. Their meals resemble the home made variety and are both wholesome and tasty. During the last several years the weekend visit is accentuated thanks to the mouth watering and delightful Kozhkattai that is our appetiser accompanied by the famous Maris coffee.
